Understanding CTET:

The CTET, a nationwide eligibility examination, is overseen by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). This examination, conducted annually, serves to evaluate candidates’ suitability for teaching positions in Central Government Schools, including KVS and NVS.

Divided into two papers, CTET Paper 1 is tailored for prospective teachers targeting Classes 1-5 (Primary Teachers), while Paper 2 caters to those aiming for Classes 6-8 (Elementary Teachers). Candidates aspiring to teach across Classes 1-8 are required to sit for both papers. Notably, the CBSE has administered 17 iterations of the CTET exam to date.

Eligibility Criteria:

  1. For Primary Stage (Classes I-V):
  • Completion of Senior Secondary or its equivalent examination with a minimum of 50 per cent marks and successful completion or appearance in the final year examination of a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
  • Completion of Senior Secondary or its equivalent examination with a minimum of 45 per cent marks, along with successful completion or appearance in the final year examination of a two-year program.
  • Achievement of Senior Secondary or its equivalent examination with a minimum of 50 per cent marks and successful completion or appearance in the final year examination of a four-year Bachelor of Elementary Education.
  • Achieving a score of at least 50 percent in the Senior Secondary examination or its equivalent, and either completing or appearing in the final year examination of a two-year Diploma in Education.
  • Possession of a Bachelor’s degree along with a Bachelor of Education (BEd) degree.
  1. For Elementary Stage (Classes VI-VIII):
  • Possession of a Graduation degree and successful completion or appearance in the final year examination of a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
  •  Attainment of a Graduation degree with at least 50 per cent marks and successful clearance or appearance in the final year examination of Bachelor of Education (BEd).
  • Holding a Graduation degree with a minimum of 40 per cent marks and successful clearance or appearance in the final year examination of Bachelor of Education (BEd), as per NCTE regulations.
  • Completion of Senior Secondary or its equivalent examination with a minimum of 50 per cent marks and successful clearance or appearance in the final year examination of a four-year Bachelor of Elementary Education.
  • Passing the Senior Secondary or its equivalent examination with a minimum of 50 per cent marks and successful clearance or appearance in the final year examination of B.A.Ed/B.Sc.Ed or B.A/B.Sc.Ed.
  • Possession of a Graduation degree with at least 50 per cent marks and successful clearance or appearance in the one-year duration Bachelor of Education (BEd) program.

Fee:

The CTET examination fee for General/OBC candidates falls around Rs. 1000 for either Paper I or II and Rs. 1200 for both Paper I and II.

For SC/ST/Differently Abled candidates, the fee is Rs. 500 for either Paper I or II and Rs. 600 for both papers.

Exam Pattern:

CTET consists of two papers: Paper I for Primary Stage (Classes I-V) and Paper II for Elementary Stage (Classes VI-VIII). Both papers comprise Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) of 150 marks, and each question carries one mark and no negative marking.

Paper I includes sections on Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I (compulsory), Language II (compulsory), Mathematics, and Environmental Studies.

Paper II includes sections on Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I (compulsory), Language II (compulsory), Mathematics and Science (for Mathematics and Science teacher) or Social Studies/Social Science (for Social Studies/Social Science teacher).

Important Dates:

CTET is usually conducted twice a year, generally in July and December.

Application dates for July: 7 March 2024 – 2 April 2024

Application Process:

  1. Visit the official website.
  2. Go to the ‘Apply for CTET 2024’ link.
  3. Select ‘New Registration’.
  4. Go through the details provided and click on the acknowledgement checkbox to proceed.
  5. Complete registration.
  6. Fill out the application form with personal details, contact details, and educational qualifications.
  7. Upload documents.
  8. Proceed to pay the CTET application fee through the available payment options.
  9. Finally, submit the application form and save the confirmation page for future reference.

Documents Required:

Candidates need to keep the following documents ready during the application process:

  1. Scanned copy of photograph and signature.
  • Format: Upload scanned photograph and signature in JPG/JPEG format.
  • Photograph Size: The size of the scanned photograph should be between 10 to 100 KB.
  • Photograph Dimension: The image dimension of the photograph should be 3.5 cm (width) x 4.5 cm (height).
  • Signature Size: The size of the scanned signature should be between 3 to 30 KB.
  • Signature Dimension: The image dimension of the signature should be 3.5 cm (length) x 1.5 cm (height).
  1. Educational certificates.
  2. Identity proof (Aadhar Card, Passport, Voter ID, etc.).
  3. Category certificate (if applicable).

CTET Admit Card:

It contains essential details such as candidate’s name, roll number, exam center details, and exam timings.

Steps to download admit card:

1. Visit the official website of CTET.

2. Locate and click on the ‘Admit Card’ link.

3. You will be prompted to enter your application number, date of birth, and the security pin provided.

4. Click “Submit”.

5. Your CTET admit card will be displayed on the screen.

6. Finally, download the admit card to your device

7. Once downloaded, it is recommended to take a printout of the admit card.
